Reedley International School: An Anti-Bullying School

Reedley International School enables students to learn more with a less stressful, yet engaging and challenging experience. They're the first and ONLY institution among the the top schools in Metro Manila and in the Philippines to provide  this kind of educational program! Reedley is not only at par with international standards, it also provides a nurturing learning environment to its students, thus producing happy and well-rounded individuals.

Happy students are better learners, they say. This is evident in how Reedley raises its kids. With small class sizes, it guarantees that learners can fully grasp the lessons taught by their teachers. Reedley, unlike mosts schools, nurtures each student to reach his or her goals through after-school review sessions, customized academic and non-academic action plans and one-on-one parent chats.

Annually, 85% of Reedley graduates pass the Top 5 local universities (UP, ADMU, DLSU, UA&P and UST) and foreign colleges such as University of San Francisco, USA, Northwood University in Michigan, USA, Purdue University, Limkokwing University in Malaysia, and Singapore School of Management to name a few.

Bullying, may it be at home or in school, greatly contributes to child stress and hinders them from learning and from having healthy family and peer relationships. Reedley has always been at the forefront of campaigns against bullying, and is one of the pioneers of anti-bullying school programs in the country. Through the years, the school has effectively launched activities through its annual Bully Proof program that promote a culture of kindness, belongingness, and camaraderie in school. Reedley’s anti-bullying campaigns were even used as a reference in drafting a house bill on anti-bullying policies for schools.

Reedley’s flagship subject, Life Skills, has been helping students to manage healthy relationships and work effectively by handling stress without sweating the small stuff. Life Skills uses The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens and Happy Kids by Sean Covey as an anchor and guide. In addition to Reedley’s anti-bullying campaigns, the school integrates study skills, time management, and conflict resolution in its curriculum.

FILA Polo Cup 2013

“Bem vindo!” FILA welcomed 2013 with a very colorful celebration as they hosted the annual FILA Polo Cup with a unique Brazilian Carnival theme. This is as close as we can get to an authentic Mardi Gras festival without leaving the country!

Why Brazilian Carnival?  Merely because when it comes to emotion, color, atmosphere, and sheer over-the-top joyous celebration, there’s nothing that beats the Brazilian method.  This is a perfect welcome for FILA’s bigger direction in 2013, a new era for the brand that features innovation while still taking its cues from a rich and storied past.

The Polo Cup was held last February 10 at The Manila Polo Club, Forbes Park, split into 3 parts: the Low Goal game, the High Goal game, and of course, the festivities!

Brazil-born actor and FILA endorser Fabio Ide hosted the event, while Guarana, the Escola de Samba de Manila Dancers, the Maracuja Dancers, and Talentadong Pinoy Hall-of-Famer Astroboy amused the crowd with their awesome performances.

Many of Manila’s finest graced the event, including Fabio’s fellow FILA endorsers Georgina Wilson, Borgy Manotoc, Tim Yap, and FILA’s first couple, the ever gorgeous president and CEO of FILA Philippines Cris Albert, and husband and company chairman Butch Albert who also happens to be celebrating his birthday on this month of hearts.

Astroboy did not disappoint us with his fiery display of fierceness and fabulosity. Astroboy is largely self-taught, learning the art of the hula-hoop in Paris, and honing his talent as part of the New York-based troupe The Gyronauts.

FILA is the oldest and wisest of the brands, and throughout its history, it has stayed true to boldness, color, and design.  Fans can look forward to more of this, but taken to a whole new level.

New brands and new lines equal a new level of excitement for FILA die-hards and those just discovering the marque.  The revamped range includes sport and lifestyle masterpieces for everyone.

FILA Everest – The old adage goes “tough times never last but tough people do,”.  Everest is a no-nonsense brand that believes in dreaming big and doing big.  It is built for those who lead the extreme active lifestyle, who regularly tread on the cutting edge, the nature adventurer; yet it remains comfortable, allowing more freedom of movement without sacrificing durability.  Lightweight but protective, Everest shoes are designed to meet the performance needs of the adventurous.

FILA Outdoors – More than a brand, Outdoors is an answer to a question.  It is a response to one of the deepest and most basic of human needs, the desire to bring back the simple joys and pleasures of childhood.  It is the direct result of the blood that runs through our veins, and the revolutionary return of the Pinoy.  It is what FILA consumers want and need.

FILA Tiva – The Heart of Tiva is escape, a yearning for love, light, freedom.  It is for the girl who takes the road less traveled.  The Soul of Tiva is the mantra “follow the light.”  It represents a new lifestyle and culture that loves the open sea, freedom, and nature.  It follows alternative sports like surfing, diving and kiteboarding, but with less emphasis on performance and more detail on the soul.

FILA Freestyle – A new hyper brand forged by the classic timelessness of FILA Vintage and the irresistible call of FILA Outdoors.  A brand full of strength and personality, it screams youth at its prime but reflects a respect for the classics.  Freestyle is for the Old Timeless, Livewire, Agro, Emo, Creative fun-seeker.  Freestyle is anything but shy.

FILA believes that sport is an artform, a combination of beauty, luxury, and passion, form and movement.  Sport can be viewed as a painting in a gallery or a ballet in a theatre.  Sport is inspiring and inspired.  As a company founded in Italy, FILA, more than anyone, recognizes the art of sport, the importance of design, and the feel uniquely tied to it.

Fila shops are located at the following branches:  SM Mall of Asia, SM Megamall, SM Cebu, Ayala Malls Glorietta, Ayala Malls Trinoma,  Ayala Malls Pavilion, Ayala Malls Market! Flow:SurfYogaSamba in Zambales!

The annual FLOW SurfYogaSamba weekend retreat last November 30-December 2 was a special milestone as the team celebrated their 3rd year at Casa San Miguel, Zambales. “We’ve been organizing boutique retreats since 2009 and we are glad that many people are finding out about us & truly enjoying our approach to alternative weekend getaways”, says Noelle Hilario, one of the co-founders of FLOW.
Monica E. Manzano, also one of the partners is a certified yoga teacher. She prefers to practice amidst greens and fresh air. “I used to live in Palawan for 2 years and I feel that you can really heighten your yoga experience by immersing in nature”. She led a sunset Yin Yoga class in the whimsical garden of artists, Plet Bolipata & Elmer Borlongan.

Each participant received an earth-friendly FLOW tote bag filled with sponsored goodies which they used all throughout the weekend. For this retreat, we had Bobble filtered water bottles,  healthy doses of Moringana superfood capsules and tea bags, Vitaminboost & Lightwater from Suncoast, face & body sunblock from Belo Essentials Sun Expert, Human Nature feminine wash, Travel Magazines and travel tags, Flow tees plus gcs from Aloha Boardsports, Beyond Yoga, Fitness Lab and Strip & Browhaus.

The following day, PETA vegan advocate and Aloha Boardsports team rider, Corey Wills taught a Surf-inspired yoga class which helps build strength needed to paddle out and face the waves. He also taught yoga poses to help loosen tight muscles after surfing. Then some AcroYoga moves to go with the class to lighten up the mood.

Despite having no waves during the retreat weekend, participants learned ground training and safety skills from the qualified Surfasana team. Head coach Nuno Rumao together with Corey Wills, Jessal Ramos, JJ Montelibano & Camille Post Santiago taught with so much heart and enthusiasm. Participants also learned the basics of paddling, “popping up” or getting up on the board, balancing, surf rescue techniques, as well as how to read waves and even water safety.

Everyone enjoyed these giant flip flop floaters from Havaianas during downtime at the beach as well as the eco-friendly Bobble water bottles!

Each night, Toni and Bogey Bernardo of Escola de Samba de Manila would take on the authentic Brasilian batucada beats with Denise Gonzales-Bernardo leading the Samba dance steps for beginners. The participants were eager to learn some new dance steps which they used during the culminating evening bonfire at the gardens, while others practiced their music skills with the many percussion instruments and one-on-one instructionals from Toni and Bogey. Denise is the third founder of the healthy trinity.

This vegetarian/vegan-friendly retreat will not be complete without emphasis on health. The FLOW girls share the benefits of drinking green smoothies. Noelle, Denise and Monica each shared their favorite breakfast-on-the-go smoothie recipes powered by Moringana- whole food Malunggay Capsules made from Pure, Organic Malunggay leaves. Mona Lisa Neuboeck, a certified raw food chef gave a very enlightening lecture on how to create yummy snacks for any Raw Food Surf Trips. She made raw sushi from coconut meat with vegetables in nori sheets and also taught the group how to make instant raw vegan breakfast porridge perfect for travelers.

At the last day of the event, everyone gathered for a short closing program where each one received an Aloha Boardsports and Billabong certificate of completion for the surfing classes. Each participant also went home with a prize but premium items from Havaianas, Billabong and Lagu were given to those who performed well in surfing, yoga and samba classes.

This wraps up another epic weekend, thanks to all participants (from Canada, Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines), teachers and sponsors: Havaianas, Aura Athletica, Bobble, Belo Essentials Sun Expert, Moringana, Lightwater, Vitaminboost, Beyond Yoga, Aloha Boardsports, Billabong, Browhaus, Strip, Lagu, Human Heart Nature, Fitness Lab, Travel Magazine, When In Manila and My Life on Board.
